Q: Do I have to clean the sampler after every use?
A: If you want to work exactly, then yes. To avoid that a sample is contaminated (and therefore adulterated), the sampler should be cleaned. If the danger of cross contamination is very low or if the single samples will be mixed anyway, then you do not have to clean the sampler every time.
If different products are sampled one after another, the sampler should definitively be cleaned, or - even better - a new (cleaned) sampler should be used.
Advise: For one product, always take the same sampler. You can mark the samplers with e.g. different colours to avoid mix-up. Or you simply use Disposables.
Samples from road tankersQ: How can we take a sample from road tanker? The product is mineral bulk, 1,5kg/Liter, and very compacted.
A: The best way to take representative samples is to do so during unloading from flowing product. If this is not possible we offer a range of tools which are designed to take samples through the man hole of the tanker eg. the Silo Sampler. |

Q: When I take samples from sand out of silo trucks I often have unexplainable discrepancies from the specifications. Generally, we only take samples from the surface by means of a beaker. How can we improve the sampling?
A: The problem is that many bulks such as sand are unmixed during transport due to the vibrations. The rules concerning this unmixing are not totally clear. For the sampling this means that there have to be taken several samples from different places out of the bulk in each case to have a representative result.
The quantity required to have a representative sample often is too small according to our experiences. We recommend to rather take more then less and to split the whole sampler representatively. The excess can be added to the whole lot again.
Q: The samples we take from a blender are obviously not represenative. What's the reason?
A: Possible reasons are: the blend is not homogenous, or there is a demixing effect caused by the sampler.
You can try to use a different blender to get a better mixing result, try also a different sampler. Increase the sample quantity.
